Hm. An interesting problem. This is the sort of thing that I think we 
should solve once per problem, and then expose the general solution in 
a database where software packages can then come around and expose to 
the end user so that they can reuse and edit the previously discovered 
results. This way, the final model might be in terms of reactions, but 
the mapping done for combinations can be a (near) one-time thing. 
Though I am sure I'd like to run a few simulations to see if I can come 
up with the same combinations as the commonly accepted fundamental 
choices from time to time, etc.
